1. Using the flat edge of the striker, feel for the sharp edge on the striker. This is the best edge to strike the Ferro rod or shave off magnesium with.
2. Shave the magnesium block to create a small pile of magnesium.
2. Prepare your tinder next to the magnesium pile.
3. Hold the flat edge of the striker against the top of the flint at a 45° angle. Slide firmly down the flint to create sparks. Allow sparks to fall onto magnesium pile.
4. Keep striking the rod till you develop an ember to light the tinder pile.
5. Use magnesium to ignite tinder. Place burning tinder into fire. Don’t suffocate the fire – build fire slowly using small pieces of wood.

* Note: Ferro Rod (Black Rod with handle) is covered in protective coating. Scrape off before use.
** Note: Feel the flat side of the striker, there is a protruding edge that you can feel with your finger, use that to strike the black Ferro rod after you scrape away the protective coating.

*** If the Ferro rod falls out of the handle, just press it back into the handle but putting the rod on the floor and pressing hard on the handle. It is made to be able to reverse if one side is worn more then another side when worn.

Get Back Survival Kit Instructions

Aspen Ridge Sports "Get back" Survival Kit

Aspen Ridge Sports “Get Back” Survival Kit

When you receive your  Survival Kit, go ahead and carefully peel back the tape around the container. Be careful with tape, and put it somewhere because you will need it to reseal the container.

The Survival Kit has 10 items in it, please double check to make sure all items in it.

Many customers put extra items in the survival kit to store for emergencies. Band-aids, triple Antibacteria ointment or whatever else you think is handy.

Grab the orange whistle and twist the end with the compass, the lid will twist off to reveal a waterproof container, this is a great place for spare matches.

Couple of items I want to talk about to help you make the most of your new purchase.

•    Emergency wire saw.   This an emergency-only saw, good only for cutting small tree limbs for firewood or shelter.
TIP 1: The wire saw will bind in the cut you might be making in wood.  You need to pull the wire out of each and every cut and as you work through wood you are cutting.  Do this and you will find it an apt and usable emergency tool.

TIP 2: The drier the wood you choose, the better your cut will be.

TIP 3: ASPEN RIDGE PRODUCTS wants its customers to be aware of the limitations of the SURVIVAL KIT before customers are in survival situations.  Despite the aforementioned limits, for the SAW’S small size, bear in mind all tools have limitations, even the most expensive ones, you can expect results to be as good as the how well you can visualize these instructions.

•Fire Starter 2 DIFFERENT Rods with each other for 2 different PURPOSES.  If you look at the rods on the new fire Fire Starter you will notice a small rod embedded in a large rod. The small rod is used to generate sparks. The LARGE ROD is magnesium ; you will scrap off shavings from this magnesium rod, the larger rod to ignite  fire. Magnesium works a tender and will light even wet.   You will need to scrap off the protective coating of the SMALL ROD in order to create a spark.  Once the protective coating is scraped off, continue the same striking motion on the small rod, this motion will produce sparks to ignite your fire.

•POCKET KNIFE.  Your new pocket knife in the ASPEN RIDGE PRODUCTS SURVIVAL KIT has multiple functions, including a corkscrew, if you get stranded with a bottle of wine.  Sometimes the knife blade might not be very sharp, in which case you can take either your small flint striker, found  on the side of the whistle or the ferro striker to sharpen your new pocket knife.

ORANGE EMERGENCY WHISTLE: the whistle has 5 functions
1.    Whistle. Your new whistle, brightly colored, easy to locate, whistle can be heard for a long range to alert rescue personnel you are in a emergency situation.
2.    Compass.  Your new compass help find your direction and communicate it to rescue personnel in emergency situations.
3.    Small Ferro on the side to help start fires.  To be honest the small ferro rod , with it’s size is going to be tough to start a fire, but you can use it to sharpen the knife.
4.    Mirror for signaling. Inside the cap of the waterproof is a mirror you can make use for signaling for emergency help.
5.    Waterproof compartment. This compartment is great place to store “strike anywhere” matches you can buy at any hardware stores.

FISHING TACKLE
We provide three hooks, one lure and over 60 feet of fishing line.  We suggst if you use the a short sturdy stick to tie the line   because the fishing line may cut your hand if you catch a fish line in your hand.  The lure is used if you cannot find bait in  your surroundings, check out what the ear plugs can be used for below.

EAR PLUGS  Your ear plugs an be used to help sleep in a noisy environment, where the noises may also be unfamiliar to you. The ear plugs may as hearing protection for loud activities such as hunting where shooting is involved.

The ear plugs can be used as a spare bobber for fishing, just run the hook throug the ear plug up the fishin line the tie it off at the length of fishing line needed to hang the hook in the water.

RAZOR BLADE.  Your razor is used to give precise cuts for a variety of situations and uses you made find.  Please use care with the razor because the blades are sharp.

PENCIL. This is to leave messages for others to find, write down observations or to notate injuries.

A few things I suggest you add to your kit.
1.    paper to write messages for rescuers.
2.    “strike anywhere” matches in your waterproof compartment of the whistle.
3.    First Aid items, such as band aids, Triple Antibiotics ointments or maybe aspirin or anything that specific to your own unique medical situation.
4.    Fire starting material: our suggestion is taking cotton balls and kneading petroleum jelly into the cotton ball and containing them into tiny zip locks or saran wrap; this combination is excellent fire starter.
5.    Take small sheets of aluminum foil and they can be used to cook food in, hold water and for signal means, and often be reused more than once.
